Putting It All Together
As you can see from the diagram to the right, VMware View 4.5 fits into the upper left-hand quadrant.
While it does meet a lot of the need, the other elements (App delivery, Policy & Control, and Profile Management) are equally important.
Application Delivery – Stability within a desktop operating system is greatly enhanced by reducing the amount of software that is installed on it. With VMware, you can use Thinapp to actually virtualize the applications themselves.
Once virtualized, you can deploy virtual applications in user mode, without administrative rights. No device drivers are installed and no registry changes are made because the entire application and its virtual OS are delivered as a single executable file (EXE or MSI). Applications are transparently streamed from a shared network drive with no server or client software to install. Upgrade or roll back applications while they’re running. The new version will execute the next time the user starts the application.
Policy and Control – Managing the access levels that your users have can be challenging. A well architected Active Directory environment and solid group policy is a critical element. Envision’s engineering team will show you how to architect a scalable policy solution that will meet security objectives without impacting the user experience.
Profile Management – Possibly the most critical aspect of a successful virtual desktop deployment, good profile management will ensure that your users can move in and out of the virtual world with ease. Additionally, it is possible to allow your users the ability to move from Windows XP to Windows 7, and back again, without any migration of data or applications necessary.
Envision, and our partners, can show you how to deliver Ubiquitous Endpoint Computing to your users: Any Device, Any Time, Anywhere.
